What is HEIDI?
HEIDI is a comprehensive system for creating digital passports on smartphones and physical ID cards. It is based on the eduTAP concept and generates Wallet passports for Apple and Google (Android) phones. An app is not required, but HEIDI can be integrated into apps. The passports can be generated with different security levels.
Similar systems are used for airline tickets and for paying with Apple or Google Pay.
All you have to do is hold your smartphone up to a reader and the right pass for the service is automatically selected.
HEIDI works straight away without having to unlock your smartphone, and will continue to work for a week even if your smartphone runs out of battery. There’s no need to fiddle around trying to launch an app.
HEIDI digital passes can be used in combination with card-based ID cards and are fully compatible. The system supports the most important European systems and standards.
How does HEIDI work?
HEIDI is based on the wallet systems of the major providers.
It consists of an online component (communication with Apple and Google) that does not store data (HEIDI-CLOUD) and an on-campus component (HEIDI-LOCAL). The two components communicate with each other via an encrypted tunnel.
Both components are provided by ANA-U.
HEIDI-LOCAL runs as a container or on a physical server at the university. There, the HEIDI-CONNECTOR is individually integrated with the university’s IDM.
HEIDI-CLOUD runs distributed on secure, redundant servers in the private cloud of ANA-U GmbH.
All personal data remains at the university (personal data). For the purpose of issuing the passes, only the data that is absolutely necessary is sent in encrypted form to the passholder’s smartphone. In HEIDI-CLOUD, personal data is processed only briefly for the purpose of generating the pass and is then immediately discarded.
I am already a customer of ANA-U GmbH. What do I need to use HEIDI?
If you are already a customer, all you need to do is carry out the installation of HEIDI-LOCAL together with us. This will be provided as a fully assembled, ready-to-use container. You can then choose to issue either cards or digital passes.
I’m interested, but I’m not yet a customer of ANA-U GmbH. How do I get started?
We will connect your data using the HEIDI-CONNECTOR and install HEIDI-LOCAL on your premises. This is usually done in no time at all. If you also wish to issue cards at the same time, we will supply the necessary hardware.

Can I integrate HEIDI into my identity management system or my app?
How much does HEIDI cost?
Compared to card-based systems, the total costs are only a fraction of the price. Typically between 20% and 60%, as you require less hardware and maintenance.
How is my privacy protected?
All personal passport data remains in the university’s IDM. Only passport metadata is stored in the HEIDI-CLOUD. This is what sets us apart from other providers.
What services can I use with HEIDI?
Library, ID, discounts and events are already available. Access and payment systems will follow shortly.
We therefore offer three levels of passports:
- Simple visual passes with QR code or barcode
- Electronically readable passports with NFC
- Highly secure passes for official identities, access systems, …
Is HEIDI compatible with my card system?
Yes, you can operate both in parallel.
What about European solutions?
